My ead I-765 is going to expire in late October. In order to renew it, do I have to re-file and send my renewal application to USCIS or are they going to send me a notice on the mail when it's time for me to renew it?

USCIS will not notify you to renew it.

It's up to you to refile 90 days before it expires. Do it now as you are going to have a problem working if it runs out before your next  one arrives. You don't get reminders.
