Question:

My ears are sensitive to earings?

I've pierced my ears three times already in the same place. When i pierced my ears the second time about five years ago, i had a problem with the earings because the pierced area was always a bit red. The hole closed so i pierced my ears again last year and the same thing happened except i noticed it a lot more this time. There was watery substances coming out, it was clear and not white or any opaque color. sometimes they would dry but if i move the earing too much then liquids come out again. i waited the exact time they told me to before putting on another earing (I dont remember how long anymore). But when i tried on other earings my ears were still swollen around the pierced area and bled half the time when i tried to put earings in. It became a real hassle so i decided to stop wearing it and the hole closed again. I like wearing earings but I don't know what to do. My friends said that some people are allergic to certain medals that the earings are made of and wearing sterling silver or gold helps? But i don't know and don't know anyone with the same symptom. Please tell me if you have the same problem or know someone who does and what did they/you do?

  1. I had the same problem when i was younger. Gold earrings do help but if your ears still do the same thing... i would call it quits

  2. That's a normal reaction for newly pierced ears - every time I've had my ears pierced they'll be sore, red and a little weepy/crusty to start with.

The swelling and bleeding isn't normal though - especially if they'd been pierced for a while.

If you really want your ears pierced, perhaps it would help to go to a professional (ask around to find the best place you can) and speak to them about it. It could be that your ears were infected before, due to a bad piercing, the wrong metal or not looking after it properly afterwards. It might not be a good idea to get the same place pierced again - a different spot on your ears might be better. Speaking to a professional should give you the answers you need.

Some people are allergic to some metals - sterling silver or gold are usually ok (I can't wear gold, but that doesn't mean you can't). Titanium and surgical steel are also good options for piercings. I wouldn't wear anything other than silver, titanium or surgical steel.

    Hope this helps!

  3. Try getting your ears pierced again if the holes have closed, and use a mixture of salt & water, to heal them quickly! you have to mix half & half, and apply freely with a soaked cutip several times a day, also you need to have a little hoop earring not a stud! so you can constantly rotate the hoop! the salt mixture needs to seep into the peircing to dry it up and heal it, which you would be amazed how quickly it will heal! I have 6 peircings on one ear, and 5 on the other and i have my nosed pierced also! if your ears are extremely sensitive, the store's like Walmart or Target actually sell earrings for sensitive ears, they are fabulous! I hope I have helped!  GOOD LUCK!!!!!!

  4. That happens to me sometimes. It is an allergic reaction. I can only wear 14kt gold, or my ears will start to produce liquid and get all crusty. If you are tired of your ears doing that, just wear clip-ons. No one will ever notice. :]]

  5. You probably have an allergy to the metal known as Nickel.

I have the same allergy and I can only wear 14k gold and above (10k has metal alloys in it, including Nickel). Look up Simply Whispers, they're a company that specializes in Nickel-free earrings and other jewelery. They also make a cream/gel that is called Misty that helps with irritation.

I have a ring that I adore but it's cheap and breaks me out in tiny blisters...I coated the inside with clear nail polish. It helps a lot.

  6. Yeah, I experienced it too when I was just a teenager... I applied alcohol to my earings and I never take them off even when I'm sleeping already... It helped me a lot. Before, just like you, I also stopped wearing earings for just a couple of days and it closed so I also had to pierce it again and I just take it off when I take a bath. and my ears are also allergic to some earings. I guess you should do some trial and error first. Like if you bought a certain earing and your ears did not react to it, then it's good. If not, then stop using it then. Hope I helped you... :)

  7. i say try it one more time but instead of using that crappy antiseptic stuff they give you use polysporn i have had my ears pierced twice before one right above the other the place i go to is a professional place and it costed me 40$ :( but hey they do it right! lol last time i got them pierced it was in june this year and the earings they have there were all gold witch sucks because my ears are allergic to gold so like 4 weeks later i switched my earings to my normal kind and then i didn't take them out until i was supposed but if you do it again make sure you keep them in longer the 6 weeks because it gives your ears more time to heal so if you can go to a professional place the place i go to is a hair salon which is better then Claire's or something because the people there have been working there for a longer time then the people at Claire's or something and the first time i got my ears pierced was when i was in grade 2 and I'm now going into grade six and the same people who pierced my ears the first time did it the second time to lol  well i hope i helped sorry it took so long for me to write this but oh well
