  1. I think your Mom is lonely.

Get her a pet that requires minimal work.  A cat comes to mind because of the mice, but she would probably be upset if anything happened to her current "pets".

Try to explain to her that it is unhealthy to keep wild mice and ask her if she thinks she might like a cat, bird, fish.  If she does, HUMANELY get rid of the rodents.

  2. i don't know what to do about the dementia, but an idea to get rid of the mice, look up diseases you can get, then show your mom pics of

    people who had it????

  3. There were a lot of general cleanliness and hygiene things that my father let go as he got older also.  He didn't have the ability or the energy or  the interest to take care of things, so things didn't get done.

Yes, it's a little strange, but not that bad.  They might provide entertainment for her, or company.  Who knows.  Time for them to find another home, though!

Your mom is lucky that you check in on her.  If she is attached to them, then you can use a have-a-heart trap and just capture and relocate them.  If she has become super-attached to them, then you could move them into a cage as pets for her.  Mice aren't bad pets as long as they don't have a squeaky exercise wheel.

    Keep checking in on her!

  4. i would get rid of the mice. they will breed and produce lots more mice. its not hygienic and they will cause a mess.

also, other people in the building will suffer pest problems too, so the mice need to go.

maybe you should get your mother assessed by a doctor if you are worried about dementia, then you will be given full information and a proper guidance of care.
