Question:

My electric clothes dryer does not spin. is it repairable , and if so, how?

I can hear the motor, but drum does not spin. Is there a belt that is accessible that may have broken? Can a below than average DIY repair it.

  1. You can do this. First unplug the dryer and open it up from the rear. Once it is open you should see the drum (thing you put clothes into)and since it is not spinning you might see a broken rubber belt that resembles a large rubber band. Go to the manufacturers web site and get a replacement or try the local repair shop, they may have one in stock. Replace the band and see of that works. Keep in mind you should NEVER work on this appliance while plugged in because you could get electrocuted. Play it safe and unplug it before you work.  


  2. Most dryers use a belt to turn the drum a few are gear driven but they are usually pretty high dollar.  You will have to open the top of the dryer and remove the front to access it.  It isn't a difficult job to do and the belt isn't very expensive.  Just make sure to unplug the dryer and remember what s***w goes where.  Good luck.
