We have all but 1 of the storage heaters switched off, the 1 that is on is on minimum. We both work full time, just have the usual stuff, t.v, lap top, washing machine (1 wash a day) toaster, oven, kettle, sky, hairdryer, straightener and fridge freezer. Who would we complain to if we are being overcharged or paying the next door flat's electric bill?

  1. you are being over charged big time and if you dont get it sorted soon the more it will cost you

  2. Thats too much for a one bed flat, take it up with the supplier and get them to take another reading on you're meter, and make sure no one else is using you're electricity.

  3. NO NO NO that is not right, i live in a two bed flat with economy 7 and we are a family of four that does use alot of electricity.

On our heaters we have a boost button which we use when extra hot water or heat is needed? do you have that to? if so double check you haven't got it switched on, its only supposed to be used for a short time and keeping it on will cain your electricity.

Other than that, check your boiler / heater system. ive just had mine turned down to help save me some money (it was on 80 degrees!!)

Take it up with your elecrticy provider, £172 a month is not right, i use a max of £40 a month.

  4. I have a semi and my bills are high.  I received a bill asking me to pay £241 pa for both utilities.  I queried it and was told that there was a mistake and it should be £141 for the next three months because I had used a lot of gas and electric and it was to clear the account.  Earlier I had been paying £84. but I know we had used a lot because my husband had been sick and we had had the heating on every day and all night.  I dread to think what our bills are going to be now they have gone up.  I think you are paying far too much for a one bed flat.  Try and go on the internet and see if you can get a better deal.  Phone up your utility people...query the bill...tell them that you are thinking of changing to a different company and you will see they will give you a far better offer.

  5. My son put up with a situation like this for MONTHS. When he finally got around to calling his supplier, they discovered they owed him almost £1000 as they had been taking too much money by direct debit. He got a very nice cheque back. he said he couldn't believe all it took was a phone call to sort it.

Check the figures on your bills then take a reading from your meter before you call. Best of luck.

  6. WHAT!!! that is a stupid amount!! £172 a month. I have a 3 bedroom house and I dont even use £50 a month.

Get in touch with whoever supplies your electric. There is no way that is right.

  7. we live in a 3 bed house, me and the children stay at home whilst my husband works so we have things turned on all day and our electricity bill on average is around £75  month in winter!, we also keep the bathroom light on all night every night because of the children and our washing mashine is on practicaly none stop! are you sure the £172 is each month? or is it for each quarter?

It's either a quarterly bill,  a BIG mistake,  or you have been charged for the whole block of flats. there is no way that is right.

  8. Check who is billing you, it maybe your landlord, if so sort him. If it is an electricity supplier then get them in to check out your installation and reevaluate your bil

  9. Im on economy seven and have all our storage heaters on all the time, and have all the things you have, tv, computer (witch is never switched off) washing machine, fridge freezer, straighteners the lot. And I'm in a 2 bed flat we pay £50 a month and are always in credit with the electric company.

Ring the company and ask them to come and read your meter, then their estimated usage will be more accurate.

Dont stand for paying so much its a total rip off and cant be right

  10. This is possible depending on how u use ur appliances.

But it can happened due to under charged in past. Usually, electricity company charge ball park figure every month/quarter, but they definitely come for actual reading at least once a year. so, if u were getting charged less in past, they charged u all in this months bill.

Just make sure to check ur meter reading this time.

Also, if this is not the case, u need to call in an electrician to check the overall load of ur place as compared to ur bill.

Also, i know few instances where companies doesn't have the right figures as the person who did the reading mugged it up, so check ur bill with ur meter reading.

    Hope this help

  11. That sounds far to much. Speak to your electricity supplier you may have a faulty meter. If you don't get anywhere with them speak to Energywatch, number in telephone book, they are brilliant and very helpful.

  12. are you with SCOTTISH POWER by any chance - was with them 6 months and they tripled my payments , have now switched

could one of your neighbours be illegaly using your suply somehow- connecting wires etc , it happens

phone them , give them meter readings  make sure it not just an estimated bill , if they still say its right tell them send someone out they can test the meter but u gotta really complain , otherwise change supplier
