Hey,

I posted up the other nite saying that one of my electric yellow cichlids

were bahivng weirdly

He has settled down abit but is still sitting on the floor on one corner for a bit every now and then

and he is stilll swimming as if he is swimming against a current in a way :S

but now the female is doing it aswell

its weird beccause none of the other fish are doing this only the electrics...

any chance this could be a side effect to white spot meddication ?

  1. I doubt it's side effect Jay.  Mine will do this too.  I have an Aquaclear 110 in my 100 gallon tank for fry and juveniles to grow out.  I have seen them gather near the return flow of the filter area like they were swimming against a current, and then they'd just go back to whatever they were doing.  I don't find it unusual.  Maybe a little odd, but they do do it, and not just the yellows.  I've had Ps. Flavus fry/juvies, Nimbochromis Venustus fry/Juvies, Scianochromis Fryeri fry, and Protomelas Steveni fry/juvies all do that before, in the same tank.

You'll laugh, but I used to think it was them needing to get their exercise in for the day lol.  I can't seem to explain the how and why that it happens, but I wouldn't get overly worried about it, if they are swimming against the current.  I think in your last question, you have looked over your nitrogen compounds and your Ph and hardness, and said they were all in range and good?  I'm pretty sure you did.  Side effect of the med, I suppose that might be something to do with that.  If you know the exact med, I could take a look at it and see.  I have a couple of great people I can talk to regarding that aspect and see for you.
