  1. check with  your labour board most areas  40 hrs then overtime. Be prepared to quit they may make life h**l for you.

  2. I'm assuming Canada--and from reading this site, it appears there's no hard and fast rule across jurisdictions.  You could do some research:

  3. It sucks, but yes it's legal.  But, since you accepted and took the job based on a 40 hour work week, you definitely have grounds for a severance package!

And then, you would get to leave, get paid for it, and it would be a great thing as an interview answer for your next job!  It shows that you have a strong backbone, and says "don't mess with me"!

  4. Yeah, As long as he pays you 4 hours overtime each week. Your time is money, not for free.

If he has a problem with that, and says "Hey, it is only an extra 4 hrs over an entire week", then he should have no problem if you work only 36 hours a week too.

If you belong to a union, then you have protection and rights with representation.

  5. it depends on how many people work there, the type of business,if i were you,i would call the labor board and ask them,i do think it is legal, there are setuations that make it legal, your labor board can tell you for sure,
