My engine light keeps going on and off

Question

i put a K&N air intake on it 6 months ago and this problem has been happening for a couple months, it throw an air flow sensor and vacum code, and every time i mess with the filter or sensor it shuts off, but my truck runs fine with or without the light on

Take it in... when that happens, the car is telling you to take it in :)

hard to say since it keeps fixing itself. you need a scan when the lite is on.

When theres a simple trouble code,,the computer goes into the ''limp'' mode. This does not mean that the truck engine limps along,,its just a program in the computer that ignores the sensors input and keeps the engine running anyway.

Oil soaked air filters such as the K&N  cause oil to get on the airflow sensor which causes the problems you describe. Removing the airflow sensor and cleaning the inside carefully with some spray brake cleaner/contact cleaner from the auto parts store should solve your issue for a while. Long term solution is change to a air filter that is not oil impregnated

sensors senses some thing wrong ...take it to you're trusted mechanic and get it hooked on an engine analyzer...this are sensitive stuff needs professional attention.
