Question:

My engine made this loud grind sound and then just stopped working...?

I drive a 2001 Honda Prelude. I just had the timing belt, tensioner, water pump and all the seals replaced three days ago. I've only driven it maybe 50 miles...then today it started making this really loud grinding sound (it sounded like it was coming from the same side of the engine the timing belt is on) and as I was about to pull over the engine just gave up and the rpm's dropped like a brick. Then the car wouldn't start again. Do you think this is due to something they may have done when they changed my timing belt, tensioner, or water pump? What do you think happened to my car???

  1. Sounds like they messed something up when they were replacing your timing belt...take it back to them and get them to check it out.

  2. definately sounds timing related.  hondas use interference engines so that sound could very well have been your valves being smashed by your pistons.

  3. Does the car try to start when you turn over the engine if yes I think you may have down the timing gear or timing belt maybe when they fixed your car they didn't tighten something.

  4. sounds like the motor blew it could have been a crank Bering
