It was mentioned on one of the websites that only those who are on GNIB card (stamp 1 and stamp 4 are eligible for getting a Green Card. Stamp 1 = person who is legally working in Ireland on a work permit or work visa. Stamp 4 = person who is married to Irish citizen or is a refugee.

I have a job offer at a well known multinational company for electronics engineering and salary is above 30,000 Euros per year. They gave a job offer on the basis of my master's degree in engineering. At the moment I am doing my PhD and I am on student visa (stamp 2). When I start working full time, I would like to complete my PhD part time. The company applied for a Green Card and it was rejected since I am on stamp 2.

a] Does this mean that in order to get a green card, I have to apply for it at the Irish embassy in my home country ? b] Would a work permit be a safer option for me instead of the Green card ? How long would it take to get a work permit if my company is willing to apply for it.

  1. I hope that the 30k is for part time emp.  Otherwise you are getting screwed.  Work permits are fine as long as your company will sponsor you.  It has to be renewed every year.  However, I'm guessing you'll need to be working full time.  I know that it's been getting harder for companies to get approved, because they have to prove that they can not fill the job with a national.  They are getting more expensive as well.

I don't know anything about green cards, I've just dealt with work permits.  So sorry can't help you there.

  2. Why don't you phone the Irish Embassy in your home country and ask them? By the sound of it, you will qualify for a Stamp 1 if you have a letter offering you a job in Ireland, complete with a contact number for the HR department in the company, of the head of the department you'd be working in.
