My ex boyfriend took the insurance off my car?

But I was told he could not take the insurance off with out turnig the plates in first, help?? I live in NY state.

No.... you're confusing the insurance with the registrarion.

If he was the one paying for the insurance policy, he could cancel it at any time, without needing to turn in anything.

was your car insured under his name? Plates are for registering the car not insuring it.  if you take plates off your car and the car is not registered or insured the township can tow it.  Get insurance asap

Go and get insurnace in your own name (car must be registered to you though)

Im not sure about the plates since I dont live in NY. But if the car is in your name he CANT take the insurance off of it legally. Especially if you are paying on it still. You need to contact the insurance company and find out whats going on. If he did take the insurance off of it then you need to get it on it again.
