My ex-husband says he got my internet IP address off my yahoo 360 page. Is this possible? How is it done?

Now he is publicizing it all over 360 on his friends pages. How did he get it? Can people find out where we live? Why does yahoo allow this?

  1. UPDATE:

Yes, if you went to his 360 blog or visited any online area that he controls where he can put tracking code. He can figure it's you by the information generated. That's the case anywhere... cookies, tracking code/software, adware are all used to track what you do online by other people and companies. It's not just Yahoo.

    Possible examples:

    http://www.statcounter.com

    http://www.digitalpoint.com/tools/geovis...

    http://www.maploco.com/

Reset your Internet connection totally. It may create a different IP address for you. Call your ISP to confirm what can be done. Make sure your firewall is set up and that any wireless internet connection is secured (down to each item on the network - i.e. the MAC address).

There are other ways to get your IP address than what I said above, but I wouldn't worry too much. I don't think much can be done with an IP address these days. No, your home address is not revealed through an IP address. Each computer has an IP address. It's just a way to identify a computer in a system, not it's actual physical location. They can't do much with the IP address, but identify that it's you that visited their page.
