My ex is using my 7 year old's Social Security number to obtain credit. I don't have access to my daughter's social security number to pull a credit report, but my oldest daughter told me that bills are coming in the mail in her sister's name. What can I do to stop this and will anyone really do anything about it?

  1. I know of many people who do this who have bad credit. It is sad that they ruin their kids credit before their old enough to have credit. Except consulting your attorney I don't know what you can do to stop her.

  2. I would call my local Social Security office. And/or a lawyer. Many lawyers will give free consultations, so they could probably answer your questions, and you won't have to pay anything. And you can decide what do do from there.

  3. go to the police station and file a complaint for fraud!!!!.....do it ASAP...you dont know how much debt she is putting you and maybe your kids in...

  4. Find out what bank the account is under, and contact their fraud department.

  5. Report her. Otherwise your 7 yr old will have bad credit

  6. Go to the cops with whatever proof you can come up with. To my way of thinking it's a clear cut case of identity theft.

Judging by the lack of ethics your ex is showing, it's very likely that your child's credit will be in the toilet in no time.

  7. Others have said to go to the police and file a fraud complaint. I would do that, and try will your local district attorney about bringing charges against your ex. You could also talk to Social Services and see what can be done. Do attempt to get your daughter's SSN from the Administration. Once you get the number you could attempt a credit freeze with the 3 bureaus and then go after your ex for fraud. Good luck.

  8. You, as the father, can obtain a copy of your daughter's birth certificate, take it to the Social Security office, and request her number.  Then, you can run the credit report.  If there is any illegal activity, report your ex wife to the States Attorney's office.  There is a lot of this type of thing going on and it is appalling.  Your daughter's name will be mud, and there won't be a thing she can do about it later.  I hope they throw the book at any mother that would do this.  Good Luck.
