  1. Newer contact lenses have been developed that allow more oxygen to the eye.  Basically this means the lens is healthier for your eyes.  Acuvue Advance is one of those lenses.  I went from the Acuvue 2 to Advance & then to Acuvue Oasys.  The Oasys lens is approved for up to 6 nights extended wear.  (I don't believe the Advance is approved for extended wear.)  I have found Optifree Replenish solution works best with these lenses.  If you're worried about the cost, most times a rebate is available if you go to the company's website.

  2. I agree with the first answer.  Docs don't make jack on contacts.  Your doctor probably makes about the same on AV2s as he/she does on Acuvue Advance.

  3. The Acuvue Advance generally aren't THAT much more, besides, even if your doctor only cares about increasing his bottom line, he is legally and morally responsible for caring about the long term health of your eye.

I'd say trust your doctors judgement... he/she doesn't make that much money on contact lenses, and if they were really trying to upsell you, they would have taken you out of Acuvue products.

  4. it is true he's not trying to make money off of you or anything.  acuvue advances do let in more oxygen than acuvue 2 and the ones that are even newer, acuvue oasys, let in even more oxygen than the acuvue advance.  you might want to take his advice and try out the advance and wee how you like them because the acuvue 2's i believe are going to be discontinued soon.  the optometrist office i work at, we're not stocking anymore acuvue 2 trial pairs after we run out actually.

  5. It is true that it has higher DK. there are other brnad like bausch&lomb, ciba vision and prolcear
