My right eye turns inward ... I had the eye doctor measure it and he said it turns inward about 5-6 degrees but he refuses to give me surgery on it because it is not off by 10-15 degrees. Should I visit someone else? Is this right? Anyone have any ideas?

  1. Your eye turns INWARD??? Never heard that bee-fore. Does it hurt?

  2. I assume that you are in your teenage years or older.  5 or 6 degrees is measured using special tests since it is practically impossible to measure just by looking at you.  This is to say that a 5 or 6 degree eye turn is not noticeable.  If you and everybody else around you notices the eye turn then it is greater than 6 degrees.

But let's say that you have a 6 degree turn.  A surgeon would be very reluctant to operate since there is a very good possibility that the surgery WOULD NOT get you any closer to Zero degrees.  There is a chance that you could be over-corrected and your eyes would turn out.

You should be talking to a Pediatric Ophthalmologist for any eye muscle surgery evaluations even if you are an adult.

  3. the doc is right. at the degree it is at it may correct itself. be patient. you might also want to try and eye patch on each eye alternating. it will make you use the eye that is unpatched to try and strengthen the muscles and maybe straighten out on thier own. ask the doc about that.
