  1. you did not give your age. However for an error of -4 and -1.75 no lasik surgery.

You may get your fundus examined by your eye specialist and if no pathological changes, you may go for simple myopic glasses arranged close to your eyes for constant use.

  2. However for an error of -4 and -1.75 no lasik surgery

  3. My dear,

Like a movie through a projector for us to see it clearly it should be focused properly on a blank white sheet, the same way for our eyes to see any object clearly the picture of that object should be clearly focused on the retina (the back part of our eye similar to a white sheet used in theaters) of our eye. This focusing is done by the lens in the front.

If the lens is weak and is not able to focus properly on the retina then we are not able to see that object clearly, it happens when the object is very near or very far.

The weakness in eyes is a problem when the lens of our eyes are not able to focus the picture of that object on the retina, it is either with the near objects or the far objects.

These are called as myopia and hyper metropia. To correct this problem we use specks of a particular power so that we get a clear picture of the object in front of us using two lenses (one from specks & other of our eye).

The numbers in negative or + are nothing but the direction of that images from our retina. If our lens are focusing the image before the retina then the number is “–” (i.e. it is fallind ahead) & if the image is focused behind the retina then the number is “+” (i.e. it is falling after ).

Get your eyes checked by a proper doctor preferably in a hospital.

  4. Myopic shift is far from unusual when growing (up to the age of about 21), but then it tends to stabilise.  While your Rx is changing you are absolutely not a good candidate for Lasik.

If it is to be done, (and while relatively safe, there are risks) it needs a stable Rx so that the benefits will last.

Excessive closework at too short a distance does appear to promote shortsight (-ve Rx) in a minority of people, but in most it is purely a growth effect.  Rigid contact lenses do appear to slow up shortsighted change, again in some people.

-1.75 and -4.00 means you will need glasses for driving, and most people would wear that power almost constantly, but that's not a "must" but a preference.  It's not severe shortsight, which is normally considered to start at -6.00.

I get to -13.50 in the worst meridian of my worst eye, so I don't consider -4.00 *that* bad.

  5. u should eat vegitable everyday.

  6. I have an idea but I don't know if you love it or found it.

weakness of eye dealing with many structure in eye and before going to surgery you must to go to Orthoptist( who are licensed to deal with the diagnosis and treatment of defective eye coordination, binocular vision, by non-pharmaceutical and non-surgical methods, e.g., glasses, prisms, exercises)

  7. Dear Kashish,

1st get your eyes examined by a qualified Optometrist or Ophthalmologist only.

2nd I really dont know how many years it took you to come to know that your prescription has changed. That is the reason it is always good to get your eyes examined every year.

    Please wear your glasses/contact lenses.

Ortho K lenses may be of some help to you. these lenses are worn at night (during sleeping hours) and when u wake up just remove your lenses and you can see things clearly. But this is only a temporary way to get rid of glasses or contact lenses. Note that there are many complications related to this therapy and so you have to be very compliant.

Surgery i must say is not for you at this moment. Your refractive error falls in Mild to moderate degree of Myopia.

Minus lenses are for Short-sightedness (Myopia) - a condition in which the eyes can see near objects clearly but distant objects are blurr.

Plus lenses are for Long sightedness (Hypermetropia): a condition in which the eyes can see distant objects blurry but have greater/more blurred near vision.

Plus lenses are also used in correcting presbyopia : a condition in which eyes cant  accommodate to see things clearly at at near. (usually starts at 38-40 years of age.)

Minus lenses are thick at the periphery and thin in the center.

Plus lenses are thick at the center and thin at the periphery.
