i have started using contacts for a week now and i've been using acuvue oasys. i have tried acuvue 2 but they dry my eyes too easily. my eye doctor gave me systane eyedrops for dry eyes and told me to use it when my eyes get irritated or dry. but it seems like right when i put on my contacts, it feels dry so i have to put in eyedrops right after.

is it common to have to use eyedrops like that everyday? i'm just concerned that using it too much will make my eyes dependent on the eyedrops or else they will get dry really quickly. i'm also concerned that using eyedrops too much can be unhealthy since it's a type of medication.

  1. In general, using SOME eye drops is safe to use as often as you need it. Dry eye is common with contact use. That said, I strongly suggest the nutratear eye drops at http://www.dryeyeshop.com/ - put a drop or two in each eye 15 minutes before inserting your contacts. Much, much better than 'drug store' drops- I personally use the 'dwelle' sold, and I need to use it MUCH less than other drops- nutratear is the more 'mild' or 'moderate' dry eye friendly drop.

  2. not antibiotic eye drops-- you must have been given tear plus eye drops which could be used also please note that if your having real dry eyes condition --- do not go in for contacts
