I love to read( with reading glasses) but it gives me headaches and my vision is not too good also. I have astigmatism and my glasses are prescribed by the opthalmologist too. I also have dry eyes. Any opthalmologist or optometrist out there? I have checked with my doctors who operated on me. They insisted that the condition of my eye is ok. But why do I feel the way I do?

  1. An examination and lenses may help a lot with a problem like this.   Did the Dr. do the exam or did his office girl do it?

    See an Optometrist.

  2. Did you have both eyes done? In a lot of cases if one cataract is done and the other eye not ready, you can have a difference in correction between the two eyes.  It is fairly common since the surgeries are not generally done at the same time. Some have both done within 2 weeks of each other and some can go years between cataract removal of the other eye. However, when only one eye is done, the images to the eye may be different between them creating an issue for reading. After some wear it usually becomes better and tolerable, but not great until the other is done.

If both eyes were done, then that's a bit different. Be sure you are holding your printed material at the correct distance, about 12-15 inches away. If you read with a book in your lap it can be out of the prescription focal length and blur your vision. The dry eyes can also create blurred vision. Using refreshing drops to help lubricate the eye will help with that and try blinking more when you read too. You can also ask the office to do a refraction check on you to verify that what you got is what you need. It may be as simple as adjusting the prescription, if what I said at the beginning is not the case. Good luck.

  3. For the dry eyes, find some drops at the pharmacy or drug store for relief.

I'm sorry, but I can't diagnose you over the computer. I would simply be making silly assumptions and that may lead you to believe the wrong things.

But, I can suggest getting more opinions! Certain doctors will only know so much, right? If you're not satisfied with their diagnosis, have another eye doctor look at you. I was told for about 15 years there was nothing I could do to fix my eyes, when one doctor simply detected I  had an astigmatism. The second opinion truly changed my vision, and I hope the same happens to you!

    God bless!

  4. im not an opthalmologist... but my mother suffered the same problem... the doctor told her that after the operation that she was going to be fine... then the headaches started and she was seeing blurry... the doctors assured her she was fine... i insisted her to get retested with another physican and they told her that the glasses that were prescribed to her were of a greater prescription that her eyes can handle after the surgery... i think u should get several opinions and dont leave ur eyes unattended... eyes are very important... try going to a doctor that has more than 30 years experience... i can recommend someone for the university of chicago hospital... if ur interested..
