I have just got a pair of contact lenses, that are long lasting one that i can wear for up to two years. But i have to take them out before i got to sleep. I have used the daily ones before and didnt have any problems, but now with these new ones, every now and then my eyes start to sting and water. Whats causing this and will it go away? Ive only had them for two days.

  1. If you are using soft contacts, then it may be caused by improper cleaning procedure(causes bacterial infections), or using unsuitable eye drops(contains chemicals that may wear or tear soft contacts). You will have to trim your nails or be careful when rubbing your contacts during cleaning, as you will accidentally tear it without noticing and this causes stinging, which can cause corneal damage.

  2. Have you changed solutions with these new contacts? Some solutions do tend to bother people with more sensitive eyes. If you think it may have something to do with your solution or protein remover, try rinsing the contacts off with some saline solution after you take them out of the contact case, before you put them on. Saline is very gentle on the eyes.

It may also be that the lenses aren't clean enough. The tiniest piece of debris/buildup can cause discomfort. You might also want to check your lenses to make sure they aren't torn or scratched.

The actual material of the contacts could be bothering you as well. Check and see what your old ones and your current ones are made of. If you can't find that info on your contact boxes, check out 1800contacts.com. You can find each brand on the site, and it will tell what each one is made of.

If those contacts continue to bother you, definitely give your eye doctor a call back. He/she may want you to switch to another type/brand of contacts, to see if that helps you.

  3. might be the material they're made out of Alicia. Compare your old ones to these new ones.

  4. i wish i could help but i have the same problem except that mine only last 2 weeks...and when my eyes water,my friends think I'm crying :P

  5. see an optician.
