My eyes:: this is probably a dumb thing to worry about...

i am 14 and my eye sight is horrible. i can't read my screen at all if i took off my glasses/contacts. i have astigmatism but i wear contacts. I'm afraid that when i get older, i may be considered legally blind. is their any way to improve my eye sight without surgery?

oh my gosh i have the same thing its like when i take off my glasses i cant see anything. I hope that my eye sight gets better i feel blind when  i take my glasses off ive had these glasses sense 4th grade I'm going into 7th know! And i need new glasses  i cant even see good with these ahh!

Legally blind ONLY applies to people who have a very poor standard of vision even WITH their best optical correction.

The size of the refractive error has very little correlation with the chances of becoming blind.

There is no recognised way of stopping the tendency to RX change in teenagers.  The Rx usually stabilises between 18-23 years of age, as the growth period finishes.

In a minority of people, and only in that minority, poor reading habits may encourage the worsening of short-sight.  Keeping a long reading distance, in a good light, with regular breaks to re-establish good distance focus, is strongly recommended.

It's good practice for all, in any case.

Some advice, other than whats already been said. Carrot juice has betacarotein and Vitamin A which is essential for eye health, get 12oz a day. Spinach has Lutein, a fat soluble eye protecting compound. Try getting at least 2 servings of spinach or other dark leafy greens a day, cooked in olive oil or butter if possible. Also try using sunglasses over your contacts to minimize UV damage. Best of luck and stay well. :)

I have the same problem. I'm sorry to say that there's no way to improve eyesight other than surgery. And I'm sure you won't become blind when your older!
