In our new subdivision, we all got one tree planted in our yard, its a maple. All of the trees planted looked a little wilted all summer long, now mine has turned red and dropped most of its leaves. Does this mean its not going to make it?

  1. Most trees need at least a year to adjust.  Hot or dry weather could make the maple drop it's leaves early.

It's probably working on it's roots.  It's a defense mechanism.

Keep watering and apply some root stimulator through the fall.

    Rule of thumb:

1st year sleep; 2nd year creep; 3rd year leap!

Give it time and thank you for planting a tree!

  2. It might just mean that you're going to have an early fall.  If the rest of your neighbors' trees are still green, yours may be on its last legs.  Hard to tell until next spring.

  3. Just to make sure ... follow a good watering schedule into the late fall. Water very 4-5 days if there is no rain.

  4. Our climate is changing faster each year. Highs and lows in temperatures are telling the trees autumn is here. 40 -50 degree mournings this time of year should be 60-70 degrees and its not happening. Trees biological clock is screwed up. Years past they didnt turn until mid September, early October.
