I recommend the Cheesecake Factory because it is a more upscale restaurant that has a wide variety of foods to choose from. The iced tea there is also great and generally they have excellent service. All the restaurants are clean and have a very lively atmosphere.

Another great one would be the California Pizza Kitchen (CPK). They have a lot of foods there and again excellent service for families.

If you live in Southern California, I would go to Marmalade Cafe it is Zagat rated and offers the most variety in foods. It is casual, and the food is served fresh. Mediterranean style cooking. The pricing is great!

Mimi's Cafe is a little less pricey, and is not as fresh as the others; however, I still recommend it cause it is a chain.

All of these are more formal than Applebees or Fridays.

Try a popular steakhouse like Lone*Star, Outback, or Ponderosa.  Another good place is Golden Coral.
