  1. Surely you can be more specific. If you are going to move to Canada, wouldn't you have a general idea WHERE?

If not, you might be traumatizing the child; a condition which no form of education is going to fix.

  2. go to answers Canada, they can probley help, i don't see how you can traumatize a young child by moving.

  3. I agree with another poster, Alberta is the best for special needs kids (mind you, I'm Albertan..so I'm a bit biased) Children here preform significantly better in mathematics and language arts. School here receive funding much easier than in the states. Children receive PE here and music programs, just like in the states. I wouldn't worry about it. Every province has a good board, and offers bilingual programing, which varies from school board to school board, although the majority offer the french immersion program, a made-in-Canada program that teaches children with no prior knowledge of french, french. My city also offers Spanish immersion and Germain immersion and also a Chinese program. If your child is special needs, they will also be entitled to an IEP here (although depending on the city, it may be called an IPP) and they will be educated fairly. It is also much cheeper here. Good luck with your move! Don't forget to bring you're snow shoes! (No, that's a joke, you won't need them)

  4. Since the special education laws are driven provincially rather than nationally in Canada, this is a great consideration. If you are talking about a child with special needs, Alberta is the best, hands down. For the general population of students, the trick is more a matter of moving the the right place in the province/city rather than which province. Generally speaking, it doesn't matter where you are in Canada, children get a better education there than any child in the U.S. does with the exception of children in private schools. Also, as with the U.S., private schools are still the best placement in Canada.

  5. I assume that you have an idea of what city or area you're moving to.  If you don't have a house there already, talk to a realtor there, and ask what school districts are the best in that city.  Canada is not a 3rd world country - they are pretty good at a lot of things.  You need someone who knows the area where you're moving to, not a flock of people with modems and a few minutes free time.
