We plan on visiting theme parks and hopefully Australia Zoo. We have an apartment booked in the Q tower which i am sure includes parking.

  1. public transport takes longer and you have to wait for it, for a family of four it may not be the best solution for the whole family but it is cheaper considering the cost of renting a car plus fuel, parking costs, and if you are lead footed it could cost you even more.

  2. Definitely hire a car. it is not expensive and you can check prices on the net and book one ready for you at the airport. Prices of public transport would cost you more for a family of four, and the cost of time alone would not be worth it. Australia zoo is about a 2 hour drive from the Gold Coast, and each theme park is also about a 30 min drive. Except for Seaworld. Peak hour traffic is bad heading out of the Gold Coast in the mornings too, especially heading towards Brisbane,  so take this into consideration when calculating your time to get somewhere.

But Hiring a car is the way to go and you will see alot more and your not running around looking for bus stops etc.

Enjoy your trip.. the Gold Coast Rocks!

  3. Hire a car

  4. A car is a better option because it gives you freedom to use it when ever you want.Public transport such as trains run every 30 minutes and it usually takes quiet a long time to get from one place to the other.

  5. Car hire is so expensive here. I went up to the Gold coast last year and was like HOLY c**p I DON'T WANT TO BUY THE CAR JUST USE IT FOR A FEW DAYS. Use public transportation.

Since everyone in Australia has a car, buses and trains aren't packed, and there are a heap of bus companies that run tours past all of the tourist attractions like Australia Zoo.

Also, while we have a scarce population, over 90% of us live in cities or suburban areas, so you can walk to alot of places from your hotel as well.

  6. Hire a car, but look around away from the majors like Hertz and Budget. Apart from getting around the Gold Coast, Australia Zoo is a long way from there and there are plenty of other places you might wish to go to that will be hard to get to on Queensland's dreadful public transport. With a car, you'll be able to go to Brisbane, see Southbank then go up to Mt Coot-tha (both worth doing), see the Sunshine Coast and its attractions and generally have more freedom. There are also heaps of places on the coast in Northern NSW that are worth seeing and you shouldn't miss Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary, the GC hinterland and Mt Tamborine.

  7. it depends how long your going for but i recommend a car so you can go whereever you want to go without realying on public transport

  8. Well, when i went there public transport was such a hassle. Relying on the buses, waiting for them and getting on the right times etc.. one time we missed our stop at broadbeach and had a detour to dreamwold and back lol.

But anyway the car hire would be more expensive but, more easier and relyable.

    Hope this helped!

  9. you take your own vehicle that will be better as the public transport can make you face many problems so you may better take your own vehicle.
