My family vacations on the Bohemia river in Maryland. How can we swim there and avoid water snakes?

We normally take the boat out into deeper water and go swimming, tubing, or wakeboarding and have never seen any snakes out there. But recently near shore we've seen a few black snakes and even a copperhead.

Just look around at all times for then most water snakes cant bite under water and if you run into one its more likely to swim away then to go after you.
