  1. before he goes replacing the motor he should test it to see if that's the problem.  Typically the problem is not with the motor but with the blower resistor burning out.  if he doesn't test it first you may find that replacing the motor doesn't change anything

you can remove the motor and test it by using jumper wires to run power and ground to the motor.  if he doesn't know how to do that then you're much better off taking the car to a garage rather than wasting your money on guesses.

  2. between 120 and 150 at a garage......your son can do it if he is a halfway good wrench...buy a complete unit ...one with a cage on it ...this will make it easier to do.....about a two hour job for inexperienced do it yourself-er...did u check the fuses? and you are sure its not the switch?

  3. Before you replace it, I need to ask have you seen water on your passenger floorboard? I have seen some Taurus's that have a windshield leak and leak to the blower motor and resistor and shorts them out. You need to check to see if you have power going to the blower motor itself, If it does not you need to buy a blower motor resistor. If there is water in that area of the passenger side you need to seal it first before you replace the parts. If you have power to the blower motor than the blower motor is the problem. Good luck, best advise I can give without looking at the car.
