My father became a naturalized American citizen last May. When he was yet a lawful permanent resident, he filed me (F2b) and my brother (F2a) a petition to migrate with him. My question is, does his status as naturalized citizen affect our visa category? If so,what option do me and my brother have.

Please help!

  1. Yes, you are now in F1 unless married.  Your father should contact the USCIS and the NVC and notify them of his citizenship and provide proof to them.  Your priority dates should change with your new status.

  2. Your petition would have been better off had your Dad stayed as a PR. Now with the change of status, your priority dates may have moved back. Options? Nothing else but to wait some more.**
