My father has a house in Taipei, Taiwan. He would like to transfer the deed into my name.

Is this something we can do here in the US? I have a newborn, traveling oversea with 2 young children is not an option for me. Is there something we can do here in the US?

Yes, you can do the transfer in US if you give your father/or any other third party a POA (Power of Attorney).  However, this POA has to be authenticated by Taiwan's representative office in the US (for a list of the offices near you, you can check http://www.boca.gov.tw/lp.asp?CtNode=125...  Better phone them before you process your POA.  They might ask you a lot of questions such as: whether you and your father are both Taiwanese nationals (as Taiwan ID might be applied when doing the transfer) etc.  And if you are far away from those offices, you can ask them about "POA" endorsed by Notary Public.  Land/House Transfer is a very complicated and detailed process in Taiwan.  Ask you father to consult the lawyer in Taiwan first before you approach the Taiwan office for you POA.  Good luck!
