Where can I go to figure out my ethnicity. My family is out of touch with his family b/c my parents were divorced. Is there any way I can have DNA testing, where they could tell my ethnicity? I heard something about Halogroups maybe? What is that?

  1. Ancestry.com has a DNA program.  You can check with them.  As to what it all means, I have to confess it's beyond me!

  2. In any adoption, the birth parents have TONS of paperwork. Chances are, if you can get his adoption papers (and as a child of a deceased adopted person, you can.  Especially becuase you need to know medical history).  Those should have ethnicicity on them.

  3. If you are not a male, it is unlikely you can tell using your own DNA. You need to have a brother tested. You do not inherit mtDNA or mitochondrial DNA from your father. I am very familiar with your situation because my father was adopted and is deceased. However, I am able to test myself. I have a haplotype and a projected haplogroup near many in greater Russia/Eastern Europe. I had no exposure to that culture in my life.
