  2. he won't be able to quit until he actually wants to.

  3. My father has smoked the last 50 years, and hasn't had any smoking related illnesses. At 1 time he was a 3 pack a day smoker too. He's down to only a pack a day now.

My grandparents are 87 and 83 and have been smoking for over 60 years, and no signs of quitting either. In fact, if they were to quit, they probably would die. It would be like taking away their medicine.

So not everyone who smokes dies from it.

You may go first if you continue to worry about it. Just let him be. If he wants to quit, he will. If he doesn't, he still could live a long time.

  4. well try to talk to ur dad and if he was smoking for the past 30 yrs it's not going to be easy, try to talk about how much he means to and what can happen if he doesn't stop smoking, and try to say thing like if u leave me i will never forgive, am sure that will soften his heart,

and dude make sure u try ur best

  5. whenever you see his pack of cigs or just one laying around flush them down the toilet.

  6. Nothing you can do to stop him. Have him write a will, and make sure you get all the assets and they get all the debt.

  7. The trouble is if he doesn't want to stop you are fighting a lost cause.

My mum has smoked all her life and it worries my sick when i think of lung cancer etc etc...she is killing herself.  When i ask her would she consider stopping she blatantly refuses saying she enjoys it.  What else can i really do?  Not only that my kids smell of f**s after visiting her for only the shortest time and it really knocks me sick.

I think you should tell him you are concerned, ask him to please stop or at least cut back.  Be prepared though for a refusal and if he does say no i think you just need to accept his habit as part of his/your life.

  8. He will have to want to quit.

If that's the case, go to the doctor.  Ask him or her for some advice and a prescription drug like ZYBAN.  Don't waste time with the nicotine patches or the chewing gum.

The prescription drug worked for me in about 1 month, and I was a 20 yr, pack-a-day smoker.  I haven't had a cigarette, OR A CRAVING, since 2002.  Not everybody can take these anti-smoking drugs, but if he can, it's a great help. If possible, get him to do some sort of aerobic exercise - walking, running, bike riding, tennis, handball, etc.

  9. Here's what we did with our dad. My brother who's a doctor told him in a cruel way that we would need to prepare a coffin soon!  Frighten him and make it very difficult for him to smoke in the house by complaining about the smell in a really horrible way. My dad has stopped smoking for ten year now!
