My father wants to give up and die

My dad has been ill, Heart problems,on and off for 8 years. He is unstable on his feet so 2 months ago some what against his will I placed him in an assisted living. This place was perfect for my Dad because he knew so many people living there. We told him that we would rent his home so once he was stronger he could return home someday. Over the past month he refused to talk with anyone or eat in the dining room. I told the staff to bring him down for meals reguardless. I visited him with my kids 3-4 times a week. @ days ago I received a call from assisted living that he harmed him self and now has been admitted on the psych ward for an evaluation. I visited with him today and he does not want to talk with me and said he just wants to die. The Drs. feel his body has much life left. this has made me very sad and wonder why

From the information that you have provided, sounds like he is missing his own home. Many people can not handle such a transition.

You should look into Personal Care/Home Health Aid for your Dad. They could provide this in his home and it would be so much cheaper.
