My father was an american born in cenecticut am i entitled to a u.s.a. passport?

my father john mahon was born in connectict new haven in 1899 i would like an american passport am i entitled to one

i think so.... that happened with me, my dad was born in ireland but i wasnt but i could still get a passport

call the us embassy and ask about getting citizenship

If you have a father who became a citizen regrardless you have an immeditate right to citizenship. If it was so far back you will need supporting documents. His parents naturalization papers (if applicable) and his birth cerificate. Problem is that often people did not have cerificates once upon a time. Naturalization papers though are easier to obtain.

Did he live and work in the US? Are there records showing him cleared to the US through say Ellis Island? If you are older...even if your father had you late in life having evidence would go a long way. These things would be easily obtained. You are getting into more of a genealogy thing.....those who know how to search.

If he was US born...... regardless you can get citizenship.

There are several things to hurdle before you even consider bringing your case to the attention of the nearest US Embaasy. Do you have a copy of your father's birth certificate or your father's US passport? Your birth certificate showing him as your father? Did he register your birth at the US Embassy in your country?

If you answer yes to the above, then you are indeed a US citizen and can apply (not entitled) for a US passport.**

You will have to apply for U.S. Citizenship first, and then you can apply for a U.S. Passport.  You have to have documentation that your father was born in the U.S. and that he is your father, and then summit your application at the U.S. Embassy or U.S. Consulate.

you would have to be born here......your dad would be crazy old if your story was true...
