When you press the power button, nothing happens. It's like stuck in a sleep mode or something. Is there something I can do to fix this and get my dvd player working again?

  1. Unless you're adept with electronics, you'll find buying a new one is cheaper than repair.  Two most likely problems - the motor went out, or the power button has broken.  If the power button is the problem, you may be able to complete the circuit by bridging a wire across the switch, completing the circuit.  The light going on tells you that the power adapter is fine.  The power light would have to be wired before the power button though, for this to be the case.

  2. Something you may want to check before ditching this unit would be to see if it's dampness causing the problem. This can happen if the player has been in a damp basement for a period of time. Try moving the player to a drier location; you could also place it in a sealed plastic bag with some desicant (can be bought- it's those "do not eat" packs that come shipped with consumer goods) for a week and then try again.

I would not recommend opening the unit and playing with anything unless you are a technician. You could take the unit to a reputable electronics shop and ask for a quote before committing, but I agree with the other poster here in that it might work out cheaper to just buy a new one.
