Question:

My fellow Democrats, do you agree that we need to make an intelligent argument about Palin?

I think that we need to make an intelligent argument against palin and her daughters pregnancy, or it will blow up in our face.

"Democrats must be VERY careful not to take a false step here. Some Republicans have already insisted that the Obama campaign is behind the rumor-mongering about Sarah, Bristol and Trig -- although in our experience the campaign has not pushed the story AT ALL, in fact they have been encouraging reporters to focus on the issues of difference between the two candidates rather than personal stories. Any sense that Democrats are pushing this idea will almost certainly turn both Sarah and Bristol Palin into sympathetic figures -- and that spells trouble for her detractors."

  1. There is no argument to make.  This is between her and her family and that of the father.  This is not a political issue.  Granted, her extreme positions on abortion and abstinence only programs can and should be debated, but not in the context of her daughter.

  2. Not a dem but will answer anyway.

It has already turned Sarah and Bristol into sympathetic figures.

Most families have children who don't live up to parents' high expectations.  It happens.  We can relate.

  3. I say we stay out of their personal business.  She's not the first teen to get pregnant and she d**n sure won't be the last.

  4. I don't believe you can get anything intelligent for an argument about anything.  85% of people who ask questions on Y/A cannot spit out a complete sentence.  Sorry, but that is the way you come across!

  5. the daughter is off limits, period.

if you can find factual arguments against palin, that's great, i've seen a few in the answers here, but attack for attack sake -especially a 17 yr old girl who has nothing to do with her mother's religious politics- is just bad form.

the most you can do is attack palin's policy of 'abstinence only' birth control, which is what got her kid into this trouble.  otherwise, it's none of our business.

palin's politics are driven by her religion, which is frightening.  she's against women's rights, wants to teach creationism in school, care's naught for mother earth and conservation of nature, has ties to big oil.

she was first for the huge bridge project up there, then (when it wasn't going to be fully funded by the usa govt) she turned against it...   i don't see this as great reform.

palin also once belonged to a group that wants to secede from the states.  she turned to repub party to get elected mayor, where she was able to defund the library (a good way to keep constituents stupid)

  6. Leave the poor girl alone. It's bad enough that her problems are now getting national attention.

But if Republicans even TRY to use Bristol to their advantage, all h**l will break loose.

  7. I just heard Obama speak about how Bristol's pregnancy has no bearing on how Palin runs her Government or how should be in the White House..as much as i am an Obama supporter i strongly disagree with him on this point..I believe that true family values and teaching your kids the difference between right wrong and how to protect yourself is most certainly a reflection of the parents.. If she has not taught and lead her daughter in these value how can we expect our own sons and daughters to look up to this woman? How do we elect her into office to run our country?  Then you have the whole issue of "Troopergate"..where she has hired a lawyer 3 weeks ago to represent her .. she is being investigated for abuse of power (btw  is illegal)  for trying to get her ex-brother in law fired from his job!  This is a woman who is supposedly "cleaning up corruption"?! They have her husband and some of her staff on tape making calls trying to get him fired..Dont tell me she has no knowledge of this! Hogwash!!!

  8. there's already been intelligent arguments made against palin. i question whether you are actually paying attention or are just a partisan voting for mccain.

    tip of the iceberg.

when she was wasillia mayor pop.9000 she fired the library director and the police chief. the police chief because he didnt support her campaign and supported her opponent. the library director said she asked her if she was comfortable with censorship? then palin said she was asking a hypothetical.

palin wanted to build a huge ice rink and tried to incorporate land into the city to build it that wasnt the city's. she got wasillia in 20 mil debt.

wouldnt you have liked to have been a fly on the wall for this "discussion" with bristol about marrying the guy that got bristol pregnant? i wonder what she really thinks of this guy? and they left out the guy's age; i presume because he's a minor? or?

this is a train wreck; it doesnt get better. troopergate, and who knows what else is out there. she fired the entire alaskan board of agriculture and conservation because they appointed the alaska creamery board which wanted to shut down Matanuska Maid Dairy, an unprofitable state-owned business and replaced them with people that wanted to keep it open. she sold the governor's jet on ebay? who buys jets on ebay? i digress. she fired the chef because she could make sandwiches for her kids too...she reminds me of "catholic mother" if you're familiar with that youtube video. "you're gonna get absolutely nothing. nothing for christmas. because that's what christmas is about, is jesus christ." no, it's not ok. it is not ok.

  9. the argument would be no family morals, teen pregnancy, and cant keep their children under control, whats also interesting is that there has been a rumor going around in Alaska for the last year that Palins new born kid is also her daughters.......

  10. Ive got to see this an intelligent arguement or discussion if you will about Palins faults from all the Democrats out there ! Cant wait really i cant !

  11. You can't appropriately make an intelligent argument about Palin and her daughter since it has no bearing on this race.

The democrats on here are burying their slimy little noses in an issue that will have much worse impact on them for doing so than it ever will on Palin.

If you can't make an argument against Palin for anything other than her daughter, then you will have nothing worth arguing about.  Liberals are so desperate for anything that they have stooped to as low as you can go.  I, for one, while I hate the personal attacks in and of themselves, can't help but be amused that the liberal (tolerant) party is doing this to themselves.

  12. Listen...the intelligent argument has already been made against Sarah Palin...she is simply unqualified to be in this election race.  McCain used her as gimmick to provide division between disappointed Clinton supporters and the DEMS.  It's the ol' "divide and conquer" strategy and it simply backfired on them...I like the fact that Obama is staying above the "fray" as he should...but, here on Y!A....we don't have to...Sarah Palin's family life is going to be under scrutiny by the media and everyone else in America just like Obama's personal life including his relationship with his minister, his churchgoing behavior, and his eclectic family background in Hawaii and Indonesia was made fodder for the GOP....So,  Sarah Palin shouldn't expect to receive any better treatment.  Oh, and let's not forget that Hillary Clinton had to take and endure her media beatdown as well....No mercy for Sarah Palin as well.

  13. Here you are:

Earlier this month, a legislative panel launched a $100,000 investigation to determine whether Palin abused her influence by attempting to get her former brother-in-law fired as a state trooper. The panel is currently questioning whether Palin dismissed the state's safety commissioner, Walt Monegan, because he refused to fire her ex-brother-in-law, Mike Wooten, whose marriage to Palin's sister ended in a bitter divorce — and custody battle — in 2005. Palin has denied the charges, and says she did not coordinate the reported dozens of telephone calls placed by her husband and administration to Wooten's bosses. Before Palin ran for governor, she and her husband accused Wooten of drinking alcohol on the job and illegal hunting. Wooten was briefly suspended over the allegations in 2006 but never dismissed.

  14. It's about character , I stand for my mind not for you or Obama in this case. If you are trying to sway people here, you are deceived

  15. I have been making intelligent arguments from the start, and so have some others. This is NOT about Bristol or her child....this is about what Palin believes in. Palin is anti-abortion in EVERY instance...and is for abstinence only education and against birth control. Bristol is further evidence of that fact. She is NOT to be blamed or made fun of in any way....her mother's politics are the issue, not the child of a VP candidate.

  16. It's too late. If all the rumors, smears and lies hadn't been done to Obama sure. But they haved open Pandora's Box and now they want to close it.

It shows his complete lack of jugdement and his lack of due diligence. It's the McSame way we into Iraq. We didn't do our homework so we believed there were WMD. McSame here. She's in no way qualified to do the job and neither is he by this pick.
