My female cat thats 4-5 months saw a male cat on the lawn and started waving her tail what does that mean?

Female cats are usually more territorial. She was angry at the other cat for being on her territory.

If she were in heat (and that's the only time a female cat is interested in mating) she would have squatted to the ground her legs spread out and move her tail to one side. She would also make a chattering sound. But at 4-5 months she is not ready to be in heat yet. The earliest I've seen females in heat is 7 months old. Get her spayed next month.
