Question:

My female corn snake is having some egg laying troubles.

She's 2 years of age and this is her first time breeding. She showed the obvious signs of being gravid so I slowed things down, let her alone more, and built her a nest box. Everything was going great until yesterday...She layed 1 fertile, but undeveloped egg...It died. This morning I found 2 more very small eggs she laid and have not yet been able to see if they're fertile because I have to go to work so I put them in the incubator anyways( I doubt they will survive). But really, my question is what's going on with her? Why is she laying them early? They only have another week or so to go and they'd be good...I just don't understand what's wrong.

Thanks.

  1. if she is laying them in her nest box you are not describing a problem  if she is laying them around the tank your husbandry is the problem. when having ANY problems with your animals CHECK YOUR HUSBANDRY , if it is all in order,or you correct any problems with it and your animal is still sick ,then its time to consider a medical issue, but again you didnt state a problem. corns can lay any ware from 3 weeks to 8 weeks after mateing.

corn snake sexual maturity is not decided by age. it is decided by size . a corn snake female can successfully breed at 28" even though it is DEFINITELY NOT RECOMMENDED ,a male a bit smaller..

  2. She was too young to breed properly

  3. Im not sure but i know ball python females are supposed to be right around 3 years old before they should be bred maybe your corn is still to young to produce fertile eggs.
