My female dog is grabbing one of her pups face in her mouth. Growling while feeding. Pups are 2 weeks old.?

  1. At this age the pups claws hurt her.  Have you been trimming them?  They are razor sharp and hurt.  

    No she should not be grasping them like than and she should be watched from this point on.  If they are hurting her then trim up all their nails and hopefully this will help.  But she should not be almost attacking them at all.


  2. Are sure it is the same pup?  also is the growling there every feeding... You can tell by separating out some of them and listening then alternate.. If it is the same pup she is grabbing (i assuem you have marked by ribbon color for ID) then take to vet to figure it out.  

  3. I was actually going to write what golden gal had put.. I agree it could be their claws are too long and they are scratching her.

  4. There's no way their claws are too long at two weeks.  It's weird that she's doing that and I would personally be very concerned about it.  Mother dogs have a keen sense about the health of their puppies and I'm wondering if something is wrong with it.  Has she done this more than once?  I would call the vet (talk to the actual doctor, not the person who answers the phone) and ask their opinion.  Maybe he should check the pup out.
