  1. Yep - as said above, you've almost killed the poor thing on bananas.

There is no "special ferret" anywhere in the world.  There is no banana eating ferret.  The entire species is carnivore, period.  They have to eat meat, and products made from meat/meat-based proteins.

Ferrets do not have the enzymes in thier digestive system to properly break down bananas, or any other fruit, or any vegetable.  Sure, they will eat it, but it doesn't mean they are supposed to.

The dark stool is constipation from the bananas - bananas are a natural constipator.  In addition, there's probably a great intestinal blockage from the bananas not getting digested properly - since ferrets CAN NOT digest bananas.

Call your vet immediately, and tell him/her that the poor creature has been eating bananas all it's life, and let the vet re-diagnose.  And if your vet says bananas are ok for ferrets, get another vet right away, and then report the dumb jerk to the medical board.

And please, if you ever get another pet, try to find out WHAT it's supposed to eat BEFORE you feed it!

Oh, and please don't reproduce either - the world has enough idiots already!

  2. You have raised your ferret on bananas instead of a meat based diet?  No wonder this poor ferret is dying.

It is obvious at this point that your ferrets health is DECLINING and not improving.  Its time to go back to the vet and find out whats going on.  And for goodness sakes...get this ferret on a proper ferret diet!

  3. Im not really sure it can depend on some things like the age, breed, and if it s a male or female. Hope this helps and I hope that your ferret will get better soon.

  4. Pedialyte is not good for your ferret.  This is what is in the product:

Pedialyte: Each bottle contains: water, dextrose, potassium citrate, sodium chloride and sodium citrate. Nonmedicinal ingredients: FD&C Blue #1 and Red #40 (grape flavor) and FD&C Red #40 (bubblegum flavor). Bottles of 1 000 mL (unflavored, fruit and bubble-gum flavored). Cases of 8. Do not freeze. For hospital use: glass bottles of 240 mL (unflavored), cases of 24. Protect from heat. After opening, store Pedialyte under refrigeration and use within 48 hours.

    SUGAR

It is intended to help with dehydration but will not sustain the protein requirements of your ferret.

    Here are ingredients for Ensure:

Water, sugar (sucrose), corn syrup, maltodextrin (corn), calcium caseinate, high-oleic safflower oil, canola oil, soy protein isolate, whey protein concentrate, corn oil, calcium phosphate tribasic, potassium citrate, magnesium phosphate dibasic, natural and artificial flavor, soy lecithin, sodium citrate, magnesium chloride, salt (sodium chloride), carrageenan, choline chloride, potassium chloride, ascorbic acid, ferrous sulfate, alpha-tocopheryl acetate, zinc sulfate, niacinamide, calcium pantothenate, manganese sulfate, cupric sulfate, vitamin A palmitate, thiamine chloride hydrochloride, pyridoxine hydrochloride, riboflavin, folic acid, chromium chloride, biotin, sodium molybdate, sodium selenate, potassium iodide, phylloquinone, vitamin D3 and cyanocobalamin.

    SUGAR no protein.

Your ferret needs meat.  Go to the store and get some jars of baby food try turkey but chicken will do. Get a can or two of AD Hills cat food from your vet.  Mix one jar of baby food per can of AD.  Feed by spoon or syringe every hour.  Your ferret cannot handle the high sugar you are feeding him.  When ferrets get this sick, you must make sure they have a very dark safe cave like bed to sleep in and get them up every hour to feed. If you need to force feed with an empty syringe, water down the food so it will slip in his mouth easily.  If you are using a spoon, I like the rubber tipped baby spoons, just put a small amount in his lips and wait until he swallows the food.  Give water if he will take it at the end of each feeding. Hold him to your heart and tell him to hang on.  Ferrets are carnivores and must eat meat based protein or they will go down very quickly.

Because your ferrets intestines are not healthy, the food you feed will not be absorbed into energy so you must feed every hour even during the evening until he has more energy and looks like he is eating better.

    Good Luck.
