Our date is December 13th and we thinking about 1:00 or 2:00 in the day. At our reception, we want simple foods. Maybe 'finger foods' like vegetable trays or something like that; but we really want them to go along with our winter theme. Also, you can give us ideas for decorating the church, etc. Just give me some great ideas that will make our big day perfect!

  1. I had a friend that did a winter wedding--in Minnesota!  It was beautiful.  they did a candlelight ceremony in the evening and she wore a McLintock dress with gold embroidery that really captured the light.  Perhaps you can find some fabric for table covers that has gold embroidery and use candlelight.  Poinsettas are abundant and reasonable at that time of year and you could also give them as the favors.  A bakery could make snowflake cookies with sugar crystals on them.  I had an evening reception in the fall and served food as you mentioned...meatballs, cheese and meat trays, veggie trays, etc.  you could also have a ginger cake under cream cheese frosting for that wintery flavor.  Best of luck!

    EDIT:

    THAT IS A GORGEOUS DRESS!!!

  2. for centerpieces you can get fish bowls and fill them up half way with water and put in floating candles and cranberries :O

    ps.

    I LOVE YOUR DRESS!!!

  3. winter wonderland! have some crystals in the tables as decorations .. center pieces made of bare branches with crystals and candles hanging on them  ... fake snow .... dim lights ...i saw it on a tv show .. they included feathers in their decoration too ...

    overall it was beautiful!

  4. Hi,

this is Sophie and I am a wedding planner.

    I love the winter theme!

Use white with blue and gray colors. White tablecloth, ice blue napkins, Large centerpieces with tree brunches in a vase it has little glass rocks (you know those curly ones) buy  more of those glass rocks and tie them to the branches. Let them hang down on different lengh and light a lot of votive!

Buy white Christmas lights and run them through under the buffet tablecloth and from the center of the ceiling to 4 corner of the walls. You can tie the same glass beads on the Christmas lights it will look like it is snowing!

    Good luck!

  5. Since you are having a winter wedding, you could do a "Winter Wonderland" theme. You could have a lot of fake snow or use cotton to look like snow. Also, hang up snowflakes on the wall or from the ceiling where ever you are having the reception.

  6. Have all serving dishes carved/molded out of ice. Fairly easy to do using cake pans, small/large muffin tins, just takes patience!

    or use Frosted glassware, etc.

If you wanted to make a big impression, add a Carving Station(s) of a leg of lamb, beef and then decorate the Station like it's in Alaska, using veils and crystals with perhaps those LED lights encased in plastic hose, to simulate the Northern Lights!

  7. I think we are planning the same wedding for the same day! I'm using a lot pine, red berries and crystal accents to decorate with. I'm also using shiny Christmas bulbs in the center pieces and instead of doing a slide show of us growing up I'm framing pictures and hanging them on a Christmas tree. I don't know how to incorporate your theme into the food selection but you could serve hot chocolate as a drink!

    Good luck to you.

  8. Have a Father Christmas theme. You can have a mother Christmas wedding dress etc etc, holly and ivy everywhere. Artificial snow all over the windows.

  9. A good way to start it off would be to ride in on a snowmobile

  10. Hi and congratulations!

I sounds beautiful!!  I really don't know how to incorporate a food selection into a winter theme.  I would just go with the finger foods you like and want to serve.  Maybe get those cheap "silver" trays that you can buy at Dollar Tree and place the foods on that.  It will give it a little extra shine.  Perhaps use a white tablecloth and get a vase or red roses or a beautiful red poinsettia plant and put that in the middle of the serving table.  That will bring in your red color to the serving trable.

For the church.  I would keep it simple.  Get a vase of red roses for each side of the altar.  Or, again, go with a beautiful red poinsettia plant on each side of the altar.  That will look really nice.

I LOVE Christmas, but I would steer away from anything too "Christmasy."  If you want...and what does look lovely....is to put up artificial Christmas Trees as decorations with the little white lights on them.  NO ornaments....just the lights.  That looks really nice.

As a "favor" you could get snowflake ornaments and hang them on one tree.  Tell the guests to take an ornament off the tree as they leave.  (I was at a New Year's Eve wedding a few years ago and they did this.)  Oriental Trading Company has lots to choose from:

For the table centerpieces.....you can do a number of things depending on your budget.  Again, you could use a few red roses in a simple vase....place it on a mirror (available at Dollar Tree, Walmart, Michaels, etc.)  Beautiful!!

OR...again, get a miniature poinsettia plant and use those!

Another beautiful arrangement is to use real cranberries and put them in a vase along with a cheaper flower like a white carnation or tulip!  That looks beautiful!  Here are some ideas and pictures:

    Good luck!

  11. Branches painted white with crystals hanging from them. White candles with salt or sugar at the base to resemble snow. Red poinsettias everywhere. You could also useice blue accents.

  12. Personally, I feel churches need little to no decorations.  Usually they are beautiful enough as they are.  However, you could add pew flowers or altar flowers.

If you are able, speak to a caterer or restaurant about handling your food.  It will cost you more, but you will have the ability to serve hot food.  Some foods I would suggest:

    Warm soups in shot glasses

    Mini Quiches

    Stuffed Mushrooms

Mini Hot Sandwiches - like mini grilled cheeses with a variety of cheeses & meats

For an extra dessert in addition to the wedding cake, I would serve cheesecake.  It always seems like a decadent winter dessert to me.

  13. I love your wedding dress it is absolutely beautiful.
