  1. On board aircraft carriers and at Naval Air Stations, including the Aviation Test Centers at El Centro, California and Patuxent River, Maryland.

  2. More than likely he'll be assigned to some squadron. They'll more than likely be assigned to some Naval Air Station. Most Navy squadrons get assigned to aircraft carriers from time to time. Carriers used to go to sea for about 9 months at a time.

And, for future reference, "rate" is pay grade -- like "Petty Officer Second Class" (E-5), "Rating" (AT) is his specialty in the Navy. Until he completes his schooling and "makes rate" (advances beyond SN (E-3), he'll be called an AT "striker" (or ATSN) -- or  so it used to be. When he "sews on his crow," he'll be an AT3. Guess it takes a little getting used to.

  3. Any Naval Air Station, Aircraft Carrier or ship carrying aircraft, Naval Aviation Squadrons, etc. Depending upon the size of the station/ship, the number of each rate assigned varies.
