Question:

My fiancee thinks he is allergic to the feathers in my down comforter...?

I love my comforter, but my fiancee thinks he is allergic. His allergies can be bad. He didn't even notice until I took the duvet cover off to wash it and feathers were everywhere.

I don't want him to have a reaction. Is there a similar comforter that I can buy that he may not be allergic to?

Thanks!

  1. Its a possibility that he is allergic to the down.  It is also possible that he is allergic to dust mites that live in the down, bedding, mattress, etc.  Taking off the cover could spread them around in the air.

There are doctors that specialize in allergies.  The best way to find out is for him to be tested.  Then you both will know what is the trigger, and what can be done to reduce his exposure to it.

  2. Yes, that is very possible. Get a comforter filled with cotton.

  3. It's probably a very cheap duvet.  If it,was a good one there wouldn't be "feathers everywhere".  This is caused by low thread count fabric.

If you have a good one, there is never a problem with allergies.  The feathers are cleaned of all dirt, dander, etc before assembly.

If you want a new down one, try QVC's Northern Nights.  They are excellent.

If not, just get a "down alternative" duvet.
