  2. Did you condition the water before you put him in? Did you cycle the tank before you put him in?

Did you float the bag before you threw him in?

Any and all of these things can cause the death of a fish.

Even a fighter can fall prey to ammonia poisoning or chlorine poisoning.

heater's switch on and off. They dont stay on all the time. The water circulates... at some places it's colder than others. When a cold spot hits the heater it comes on and warms it up.. that water circulates elsewhere and another cold part comes in.

    Rinse and repeat, forever.

and NEVER listen to pet store employees. They are there for a paycheck and they know NOTHING about the animals they sell.

A monkey could probably give you better advice.

Hope this helps for future fish purchases.

  3. sorry about your loss i lost one of my guppies i got yesterday this morning so i know it's sad when you have only just got them

    :(

it sounds like you did everything right, so maybe you were just unlucky and got a poorly fish....moving environment probably stressed him out so if he was weak to begin with then that might have caused his death

if you say u've had  him 3 days the water must have been clean....but did you dechlorinate it first? either by letting the the water rest for 24 hours or adding dechlorinator? chlorine in the water is very dangerous for fish.

also i don't think you should blame the heater, i thought mine was broken when i got mine and it did that....it's only on when it needs to heat the water so the temperature doesn't drop, the heat doesn't have to be on all the time

hopes this puts your mine at ease a bit ^ ^

  4. Because it was stressed when you bought it then you put it in your aquarium and his heat was always changing making him even stresser and allowed probably a desease get in him and die.

  5. A betta should be housed in a 5 gallon heated filtered tank.  The tank needs to have been completely cycled (google cycling an aquarium for lots of links) and then your fish added.  The water needs to be at least 26C at all times for them not to be sick and lethargic.  You need to do 20% water changes weekly with dechlorinated water.

  6. Well first off.. I'm very sorry for your loss. There's nothign worse than losing a brand new pet.

Dont feel bad. Judging by what you said, you did a pretty good job. I'm guessing the fish might've been sick already when you purchased it. If you have a heater im guessing you have a decent sized tank.

Your heater is not faulty. They are supposed to switch on once the water drops below the temperature, and switch off when its at the right temperature (i was panicking about it as well when i first got a heated aquarium!)

Did you treat the water? (With a chlorine neutraliser or something similair)

Did any chemicals get into the tank? (Sprays, etc around the tank can harm the fish.) Did you clean the tank with a detergent or soap? this is also harmful to them.

So im guessing by what you said your fish died from either a sickness, stress or chemicals.

If i were you, I would clean out the tank and gravel, (NO SOAP!) Fill with water again, set the heater/thermometer up, and leave for around 2 weeks to settle. Then add another fish. I'm sure you'll have more success!

People manage to keep fighters in those tiny little bowls without heating for months, so don't blame yourself.

    Anyway

    Hope i helped!!

and sorry for your loss. and good luck for next time :D

  7. i dont think the heaters faulty, my heater does the same thing i think its because the heater only heats the water when the temperature falls beneth the temperature it says on the dial

  8. When you got him he could have been sick,Even if you let your water sit 24hrs you still have to put chlorine remover in the water because it also takes out heavy metals also, and some of them reduces electrolyte loss and replaces slime coat.

  9. The ideal temperature for a betta is 78-80°F. Temperatures lower than 76°F (25°C) render the fish lethargic and illness-prone.

  10. The temp was too low for a beta to survive and also we need to know if i was wih any other fish and where you bought it.

  11. He lost the fight!!!!
