  1. Improper nutrition is why it broke.

You must provide a cuttle bone at all times for your bird.  Some birds without enough calcium die when trying to lay and egg that becomes stuck in the cloaca.

Do read up on the nutrition these birds need.

  2. A little more info would be helpful.  If it just broke on its own it sounds like a lack of calcium.  Add some crushed eggshells with cooked egg into the cage for them to eat.  This will add the needed calcium & toughen the exterior of the egg.  Also watch the female she may have pecked it trying to turn it.

  3. How did it brake? Did it fall? Did the finch push it? If so, it probably wasn't fertile anyhow.

  4. As was said before, it was probably infertile. And she

    pushed it out.

But, if she laid one, there will more than likely be more.

Finches generally lay between 3-7 eggs. But I've found

mine lay 3-5, and I've never had seven.

  5. it probably was'nt fertile

  6. If it wasn't fertile, the parents may push it out of the nest or break it. They just seem to know when an egg isn't fertile.
