  1. I'd suggest to visit Hua Hin as you have limited time in thailand.  It's very safe, over the last few years His Majesty The King of Thailand has moved to Hua Hin permanently  so there is an awareness of tighter security.

The main beach at Hua hin stretches all along the coast from the center of town in the Hilton and Sofitel area down to the end of Khao Takiab. The beach is wide with soft sand. North of the town there are beaches around the resorts and beach hotels along the coast, other beach areas continue north through Cha Am.

South of Hua hin town center past the end of Khao Takiab beach Hua Hin  is another beach at Takiab Bay which stretches several kms south to the Suan Son beach area. beyond Takiab are other beaches including Pak nam pran and these continue south along the coast through Pranburi.

Hua Hin has lots of tourist places like the waterfalls, Khao takiap (a hill from where the town view is really majestic), fishing area,  kings palace etc and its very difficult to locate taxis etc from one place to another. The local tours are a bit expensive (ones who charge on a per seat basis). Hire a car (you can find them with placards standing next to the main road - somewhere near the Burger King / Starbucks); the charge is around Baht 1400 (around 45 USD) and covers all places in a nice Chevy Car.

There are luxury spas at most if not all the top Hua Hin resorts and hotels, these offer plush top of the range spa treatments, massage and relaxation.

For your accommodation, I'd recommend Putahracsa Hua Hin Hotel http://www.discovery-thailand.com/Hotels... .   The hotal is close to the night market where you can enjoy the local foods.  I love the library. There is quite a variety of books and magazines. The huge sofa in the library is so relaxing. The resort offers free Tuk Tuk service to the Clock Tower which is very convenient.  The spa is very nice too: reasonably priced and has a very good environment.  Must try eating at oceanside restaurant at high tide. Ingredients were very fresh.

    Have a nice trip!!

  2. Sadly you will not see much in four days.

I would save the islands and major touring until you can have a longer holiday, then you could see a lot more.

You would be safe in Thailand, just use common sense.

A good little spot for a short trip would be Hua Hin.

Not far from Bangkok, easy to get to by road or rail.

Great accommodation two to five star.

Nice choice of beaches in that area.

    Delicious food, especially seafood.

    Small but good nightlife.

A few good sites to see.

Enjoy your trip, you will return.

  3. What are you looking to see in Thailand?

    1.  Your can fly to Phuket in a little over an hour so yes.

    2. Pattaya is the closest beach to Bankok That has a large western tourist area.

    3.  There's a regular service which leaves from Phuket Town twice a day to Phi Phi island - around 08:30 and 12:30. The boat trip takes around 1:30 minutes to 2:30 minutes, depending on whether it's an express or standard boat service.

    4. Most people in Pattaya are doing their own thing and as long as you stay in the well lit and well traveled areas you should be fine.  Of course you need to remain in control of your facilities so you make the right decision but it is as safe as going out in any large city in the U.S.

Negative is from someone who is angry I'm a top contributor.

  4. Only 4 days huh? Not really a lot of time, it will be a tight schedule.

With the current political situation in Bangkok, I recommend staying where you are now.

Here are my answer for your questions if you were to arrive today (Aug 30, 2008).

    1. Phuket airport is closed, at least some parts, due to the political demonstrations that are blocking the runways and roads/streets leading to and from the airport.

    2. Pattaya or Hua Hin is your best bet near Bangkok.

    3. Down where Phuket is. You must go to Phuket first, so that takes us back to answer #1.

    4. Stats show that it's pretty safe. But like any nightlife party city, sometimes people just get unlucky when the wolves come out to play.

    Stay safe...
