My first time on a plane?

I'm going from Philly to Rome... I think it should be a pretty long flight. What should I expect? Will I get sick? Where should you sit to feel most comfortable? Any meds to make me feel less nervous?

  1. Take a long breath, relax, recall your happiest past memories, listen to sweetest music you like, see the cloud from the window..... and you feel more comfortable.

  2. All you can do is take a deep breath and try to relax. I have flown many times and am still nervous when I fly on planes. Ever since I saw the movie "Alive" when I was 12 years old, my views of airplanes have never been the same so I don't suggest you watch it.

Motion sickness is caused by a conflict between the body's sense of vision and its sense of equilibrium and may worsen during turbulence so if you start feeling sick it is probably from this. It can be eased by keeping your eyes fixed on a non-moving object.

If you suffer from motion sickness, try to obtain a window seat since being able to focus on the ground, sea or horizon can sometimes help. The middle of the aircraft near the wings is also usually preferable.

I prefer the window seat because then I can look out the window and lean up against it to sleep. You may feel nervous at first when the plane takes off but as time passes you will get more comfortable with the aircraft environment.

  3. i would recomment a seat near the exit doors so you can jump out if it gets too much

  4. If you get sick depends alot on your own personal sensitivity to motion sickness, or just your fear of flying in general.  Most people will never get sick just because of flying, if they get sick on the plane its probably because they were sick to begin with. The most commen discomfort issues on planes ussualy have to do with sinuses. People with bad allergies or sinus infections can have alot of trouble on planes.

My best advice is just to relax. Millions and millons of people fly every day every year without any problems. Bring stuff to keep you entertained. An ipod, dvd player, cd player, ect ect. A mild sleep aid like tylenol pm can be very helpful in allowing you to get a few hours sleep.

And as far as where you want to sit, ussualy the middle of the plane is the least bumpy.
