He did it to save the world

Although our sanity began to unfold

For you he would cry

And we thought he would die

For his family he did this

But our lives weren't worth more than his

You see anything he would do

Just to come home and see you

Because you are our son

Therefore anything he would of done

Just to be here with his family

But wondering made him lose sanity

The army was his life

Even through tumult and strife

So just knowing he was happy

Stopped us being so snappy

Although we were full of tears

We have no more fears

Because he was a savior

A strong, brave warrior

If only you could of seen

What a great father he could of been

When he died his eyes were closed

Where his soul was enclosed

And his heart was open

His happiness would never deepen

He said he would donate

To help someone's life recreate

It was so like him

Being with him was never grim

He was so full of life

It was an honour to be his wife

And although he's dead and gone

He will always love you, son.

Xx

  1. The best poems come from the heart, and I know that this is exactly what you have done. This was so sad to read it almost made me cry. Your husband would be so proud, that you have wrote a poem dedicated to him. Thank you so much for posting this, it is the best sad poem I have ever read. And I hope everyone appreciates your husband for the hero he was.

  2. Its really good it almost made me cry, but it was very sad.=[

  3. BEAUTIFUL!! :'(

  4. I feel terribly sorry for your loss, and I think it's great that you want to honor your husband and memorialize him for your son's sake. But truthfully, I found this poem to be quite difficult to follow in places because of the inconsistent grammar, and I found the poem's language to be very vague and predictable. I think that, if you tightened up the grammar a little and used a lot more concrete and unique details about your husband's personality and life in this poem, it would be a keeper!
