  1. That happened to my fish too.  Just change the water before putting in the ick stuff and keep cleaning the tank more than you normally would, like once a week.  At some stores, the have ick treatment foods.  I can't remember the store off the top of my head, but you can search 'ick treatment foods' on google

  2. If you get a full blown breakout of cryptocrayon you might as well face the fact that you are gonna have a dead aquarium.  You can take the fish out of the contaminated water and place them in a treatment bath,  these are antibiotic treatments you are get at the pet store, it is referred to as a prophylactic treatment.  In the mean time the water has to be gotten rid of.  Everything in the tank has to be cleaned.  So you are essentially starting all over again.

Usually the way "ick" gets in to a tank is by introducing contaminated fish or using sea water.  Ick is a natural life form in all water.  However, if the conditions are right and there is a sick or injured fish in the tank, an attack will occur.
