she'll go to the top to get air, like there isn't air in the water.

but i just did a 40% water change, i even added a bubbler this morning, and i have tons of plants.

what's going on?

my ph appears normal (though it's hard to tell) and my ammonia is safe.

  2. some fish like bettas need to go to the top of water to breath no matter how much oxygen is in the water, and is there vets for fish? i never heard of one...

  3. What kind of fish is it? some fish do breath air from the top.

  4. Its normal for fish to do that. Do you remember when you got your fish in a plastic bag and they filled it up with air because the need air.My 3 fishes are like 1 ft long and they still go up for a air it normal.I had them for 4 years. So don't worry.

  5. they skim for food. no biggie.

when I approach their tank, they shoot to the top and begin to skim. Coincidence? lol

  6. Maybe the fish is just hungry. Fish can't breath outside the water anyway....

  7. Gasping for air at the surface is often a sign of poor water quality.  Ammonia or nitrite poisoning can often cause a fish to gasp for air at the surface.  Do you have a test kit and have you tested your water quality?  What are your readings?  Have you done anything that might have caused a spike in your ammonia, nitrite or nitrate, like added any new fish or removed any plants, cleaned any decorations or changed the filter media recently?  Try another water change, they never hurt.

  8. ITS GONNA DIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  9. duh because its a beta fish it comes up for air!!!!!!

  10. IDK

  11. My fish do this regularly, especially around feeding time.  When the fish does this it is normal.  Besides unless it is a Betta it can't breathe without water.

  12. Goldfish dont usually do this unless for some reason their is not enough water in the tank. Your best bet may be to call up to a local reputable petstore or vet and explain the problem and theyll ask questions, just answer truthfully and they should be able to help.

  13. Are you sure its a fish? lol Just kidding. Uhmm ask your local petshop and see if they recommend anything for you to buy to help with that. Good luck!

  14. call a vet or a place that knows about this kind of stuff. but it has to be something about your tank.

  15. yeah my fancy goldfish did that to. they're either wanting food (probs not) or they're trying to get oxygen, i used an air buble thing to break the surface, to make more oxygen and it worked.

  16. i know what yur porblem is and its easy to fix. just move your air bubbler deeper in the water more towards the bottom of your tank.

  17. Check to see if your water filter is working properly. i use to have 6 dragon fish and that use to happen
