i have water conditioner in the water, and also bought oxygen tablets which dissolve in the water, but they constantly are gulping air at the top of the tank, is this lack of oxygen or is it normal?

  1. Get rid of the oxygen tablets. They don't work.

Your fish are more than likely gulping at the surface due to the lack of dissolved oxygen and increased ammonia.

You need to test the water and more than likely need a water change.

If your tank is new it isn't cycled.

    This site will help.

What kind of fish and are you running a filter?  You cannot have fish in a tank without a filter.

    Read the site I've listed.

  2. Uh Oh. This is a sign of no oxygen in the tank! They could die from it. Don't worry, here's a way:

    Get a straw

blow very  very lightly in the tank/bowl(It's usually in a bowl because a tank can filter the oxygen-less water so I hope it's in a bowl or else there maybe, remember:maybe, be a prob.)

When you're blowing, you'll see your fish start to breathe below the surface.

  3. perhaps it is too hot in your tank. hot water means that there is less oxygen in the water. the oxygen tablets you are adding are quickly being returned to the atmosphere.

  4. lack of oxygen if you dont have plants or air pump going (note if you get an air pump you need to buy tubeing and air stone or rock to hold it from floating up)

    good luck
