Question:

My fish tank has Slimy glass?

the wet part of my fish tank glass feels slippery and slimy I usually clean it off but I've been hearing about good bacteria and ecosystems and such, what is the stuff?, should I clean it off?

  1. as long is its not harming your fish or plants it probably won't need to be removed


  2. That's pretty normal.  Unless it's affecting your visibility, I'd just leave it alone.

  3. Good bacteria is bacteria that's in your filter and water and gravel. Do you have any snails? Sometimes they make slimmy trails. Do you have cichlids? Thatll probably mean a male cichlid has fertilized the eggs (if you see any).

  4. I had the same problem. I never used them but they are algae eaters do you have any because they keep the glass clean and does not effect the fish.

  5. It's algae.   It consumes some of the nitrates in the water, so it's not all bad.   But, when it gets thick, the glass gets dirty-looking and you can't see the fish as well, so most people scrape it off or include a big snail to help with the chore (just make sure it's not a pregnant snail or you will soon have more snails than you can imagine).
